Afternoon Tea Online was lucky enough to indulge in afternoon tea at the spectacular Aqua Shard this week and what an incredible experience we had. If you are looking for somewhere special for afternoon tea in London, this really has to be at the top of your list.

The excitement builds as soon as you arrive at The Shard and you know you are in for something special as soon as you enter the leather panelled lift. Aqua Shard is on the 32nd floor and as soon as you step out of the lift and walk around the corner you are greeted with the most stunning of views. The restaurant is really spacious and is surrounded by floor to ceiling windows offering the most breath taking of views across London.

We were seated next to the window and were immediately spellbound by the views in front of us

Tower Bridge and the Tower of London to the left, the City of London straight ahead and St Paul's to the right. You can see right across the capital and it was fun trying to spot certain landmarks. Once we had calmed down from all of the excitement of our surroundings we settled down to enjoy the most amazing afternoon tea.

The lovely Marta made us feel very welcome, in fact her warm and friendly approach and great professionalism was one of the highlights of the afternoon. The champagne afternoon tea was simply brilliant and we loved the way the sandwiches were served first followed by the tiered stand of scones and cakes, described as dessert. The sandwiches were delicious; especially the chicken with lavender mayonnaise and the smoked salmon and we loved them so much we asked for more. As for the cakes, it’s hard to say which we liked best as they were all fabulous. The shard cake is worth mentioning, a delightful red velvet sponge surrounded by two thin slivers of dark chocolate to create a miniature chocolate shard.

Aqua Shard has the whole package for a very special afternoon tea indeed. The restaurant is stunning, the views are breath taking, the actual tea itself is outstandingly good and the staff really do go that extra length to ensure a perfect experience is had by all. We can't wait to go again!
