The Kensington’s afternoon tea is served in the comfort of the hotel’s recently refurbished and redesigned spaces. Its fabulous interconnected drawing rooms and the hotel’s restaurant located on the ground floor, are ideal for afternoon tea and are more akin to a glamorous private residence, offering the perfect relaxed and stylish space to enjoy the great British tradition of afternoon tea.
Executive Chef Steven Gibbs, formerly of Hix and The Ivy, has worked closely with his pastry team to create his take on both a classic as well as gluten free Afternoon Tea for those with allergies or seeking a lighter offering. Each tea is accompanied with a selection of fragrant, fair trade loose teas from Rare Tea Company, sourced directly from the greatest tea gardens in the world, as well as delicious buttermilk scones, baked fresh daily, served with strawberry jam and Devonshire clotted cream. If you wish to truly indulge, add a glass or two of Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut NV.
The classic Afternoon Tea features a delicious selection of sandwiches including egg mayonnaise & mustard cress bridge roll; cucumber & cream cheese on malted brown bread; roast chicken & cranberry on white bread; smoked salmon & chive crème fraîche on malted brown bread. The savouries offer Summer vegetable tart, broad beans, girolle mushrooms; pea & Gorgonzola arancini, basil crème fraîche; crab tartine, pickled cucumber; duck & blackberry cornet. The sweet section features Amalfi lemon éclair, filled choux with glazed meringue; strawberry tart, vanilla pâte de fruit; red velvet & white chocolate cake; bitter chocolate macaron with sea salt caramel; passion fruit & apricot mousse and freshly baked buttermilk scones with strawberry jam & Devonshire clotted cream.
The gluten Free Afternoon Tea offers the same tasty sandwich selection as the classic tea, but all served on gluten free bread. For savouries, this tea includes superfood salad on baby gem, feta & pomegranate; pea & Gorgonzola arancini, basil crème fraîche; crab tartine, pickled cucumber; duck & blackberry parfait For the sweet section, there is an array of delicious gluten free offerings: carrot cake; date & almond balls, dipped in chocolate & grated coconut; bitter chocolate macaron with sea salt carame; passion fruit & apricot mousse; vanilla pâte de fruit and freshly baked gluten free buttermilk scones with strawberry jam & Devonshire clotted cream.
The Kensington’s Afternoon Tea is priced at £35 per person, or £45 per person with a glass of champagne. Afternoon Tea is served from 12noon to 6pm daily.
