The Kensington’s afternoon tea is served in the comfort of the hotel’s recently refurbished and redesigned spaces. Its fabulous interconnected drawing rooms and the hotel’s restaurant located on the ground floor, are ideal for afternoon tea and are more akin to a glamorous private residence, offering the perfect relaxed and stylish space to enjoy the great British tradition of afternoon tea.
Executive Chef Steven Gibbs, formerly of Hix and The Ivy, has worked closely with his pastry team to create his take on both a classic as well as gluten free Afternoon Tea for those with allergies or seeking a lighter offering. Each tea is accompanied with a selection of fragrant, fair trade loose teas from Rare Tea Company, sourced directly from the greatest tea gardens in the world, as well as delicious buttermilk scones, baked fresh daily, served with strawberry jam and Devonshire clotted cream. If you wish to truly indulge, add a glass or two of Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut NV.
The classic Afternoon Tea features a delicious selection of sandwiches including Dorset crab & avocado with lemon purée; Wiltshire ham & tarragon mustard with pea shoots; braised salt beef with English mustard & cornichons and cucumber & cream cheese on white bread with baby watercress. The savouries offer smoked salmon gougère with horseradish crème fraîche and wild mushroom & leek tart with aged parmesan. The sweet section features carrot & walnut cake with a cucumber & cream cheese icing; vanilla & raspberry macaron; dark chocolate & cherry panacotta with sea salt caramel; Victoria sponge sandwich; plum Bakewell tart with frangipane & almonds and freshly baked buttermilk scones with strawberry jam & Devonshire clotted cream.
The gluten Free Afternoon Tea offers the same tasty sandwich selection as the classic tea, but all served on gluten free bread. For savouries, this tea includes lighter dishes; red pepper hummus feta on grilled gluten free flat bread and a fresh superfood salad with red chicory leaf. For the sweet section, there is an array of delicious gluten free offerings: carrot & walnut cake with a cucumber & cream cheese icing; vanilla & raspberry macaron; dark chocolate & cherry panacotta with sea salt caramel and date & almond balls, dipped in chocolate & grated coconut and pâte de fruit.
The Kensington’s Afternoon Tea is priced at £35 per person, or £45 per person with a glass of champagne. Afternoon Tea is served from 12noon to 6pm daily.
The Kensington Hotel will be offering a limited number of complimentary tickets to the V&A's new exhibition, "Botticelli Reimagined" for guests taking afternoon tea. Simply book your afternoon tea online and you will receive a ticket following your afternoon tea.
