The Waterhouse Bar & Terrace has taken its name from the hotel’s very own architect the famous Victorian Alfred Waterhouse. Waterhouse designed the Metropole hotel and doors first opened in 1890 with local guests as well as those arriving by special luxury trains from London Victoria heralded in by the Metropole’s very own band. The hotel when opened had Turkish baths, perfumery and later a hotel cinema and casino; many of these original opening scenes are located around the hotel public areas today.
The hotel also offers gluten free alternatives for both cream tea and afternoon tea.
