Review: Afternoon Tea at Ametsa at the Halkin

What better way to brighten up a miserable and chilly Monday afternoon than with a delightful afternoon tea at Ametsa at The Halkin. We were lucky enough to be invited to sample what is best described as one of the most unique and visually impressive afternoon teas we have seen. Traditionalists may not approve as this is a thoroughly modern affair, but we were blown away by the exquisite delicacies served to us.

The Halkin by COMO is a luxurious London Boutique hotel and its location along a pretty tree lined Belgravia street is conveniently close to Hyde Park Corner underground station. As we headed inside, the row of twinkling Christmas trees to the front of the hotel already had us feeling all warm and fuzzy. Afternoon Tea takes place in The Halkin Bar, a swanky lounge bar space with an exclusive yet informal air. We selected our tea from the leather bound menu and were swiftly presented with a flute of fine Spanish cava which went down a treat I must say! Our tea quickly followed –poured perfectly by our lovely host.

Created by Ametsa’s Michelin starred Chef Sergi Sanz, the Spanish inspired afternoon tea at The Halkin is a true sensation to the eye and the taste buds. We were first served the savoury treats, exquisitely displayed on a long white dish.  Manchego and Iberico ham pillows simply burst with the most amazing flavours whilst the spider crab tempura will remain one of the most delicious little morsels I have ever tasted. The cold strawberry and tomato soup was outstanding and I could have eaten a hundred of the tasty little pork croquettes. But space was needed for the sweet treats still to come!

Long dark grey slices of slate featured what looked to us like a work of art yet was actually the second part of our amazing afternoon tea. A glass jar containing the blackberry yoghurt was like no other yoghurt we had ever tried whilst the classic dessert of chocolate with churros took on a new and utterly delicious modern form. The lime custard and banana tartlet was topped with some impressive spun sugar and tasted divine whilst the cinnamon flavoured Catalan cream was just sublime.

We can’t recommend the Afternoon Tea at Ametsa at The Halkin highly enough and were thoroughly impressed with every inch of it. If you are looking for an afternoon tea with a difference and an afternoon tea of exquisite quality then why not book your next afternoon tea at Ametsa at The Halkin. You won’t be disappointed!
